The classification of solders into rods and bars depends on the specific processing techniques and subsequent applications. Solder rods are sometimes processed manually, but very often by machine. Thanks to the wide variety of suitable moulds available for almost all types of material, cast solder rods allow for a particularly wide range of metal and alloy variants.

The pressed, and therefore highly homogeneous, solder rods can generally be dispensed with great precision. This enables them to be used for very delicate soldering work in the manufacture of fittings and measuring instruments, as well as for process-optimised repair soldering on industrial connecting rods and plain bearings.

Bar solder for manual and machine application

For manual processing, particularly in piston and flame brazing, slim solder rods are predominantly used. These formats allow for precise dosing in applications such as:

Machine applications

In machine processing, more substantial rod solders are used to efficiently process larger quantities of solder. The formats are continuously adapted to the increasing demands of industrial processes.

Differences between solder wire and solder bars

Our brazing rods, manufactured using a pressing process, are characterised by high geometric precision and material-specific homogeneity. We tailor the rod diameters and cross-sections individually to your application requirements.

Even with identical alloys, solder rods and bars can differ significantly in their material and processing properties, including:

  • Creep behaviour

  • Penetration behaviour

  • Spread behaviour

  • Dissolution behaviour
