What is SAC305 solder?

SAC305 is a standard soft solder for the EMS sector, consisting of tin, silver and copper. This soft solder is one of the most commonly used materials in PCB assembly and cable manufacturing.

What alloy is SAC305?

SAC305 is one of the most widely used lead-free solder alloys in the electronics industry. The designation stands for the alloying elements tin, silver and copper, with the number 305 describing the proportion of 3.0% silver and 0.5% copper. The remaining main component is tin at 96.5%.

With a melting range of approximately 217–220 °C, SAC305 is lower than many other lead-free alternatives and enables reliable soldering processes while maintaining good component compatibility. In addition, the solder is highly resistant to thermal fatigue and retains its bonding quality even after repeated temperature changes.

Delivery forms for SAC305 solder:

  • Ingots with and without suspension

  • Rods type 3K & 4K

  • Solid and flux-filled wires

  • Pellets

  • Sticks®

Other formats or products not listed here may be possible upon request.

Applications

The balanced composition gives SAC305 excellent wetting properties and ensures reliable, homogeneous solder joints. The silver content increases mechanical strength and supports efficient heat dissipation, making the alloy particularly suitable for demanding electronic applications.

  • Wave and selective soldering systems

  • Iron soldering systems

  • Laser soldering systems

  • Plasma and evaporation systems

  • Hand soldering

  • Dip tinning
